Pilot Episode 4: Encoding the Environment

We chat to Dr Chanuki Seresinhe, a data science researcher at the Alan Turing Institute in London, specialising in using big online datasets and deep learning to understand how the aesthetics of the environment affects human well-being. Her research has been published in Nature has drawn worldwide media attention and has been featured in the press, including The Economist and The Times.
She also works commercially as a Lead Data Scientist at Popsa, and previously as a Senior Data Scientist at Channel 4.

Prior to pursuing a PhD in data science at the Warwick Business School, Chanuki was a digital designer and ran her own digital consultancy for over eight years, advising clients, including the Tate, Design Museum and Nesta.
In this episode, Chanuki shares her experience going from a digital designer to data scientist, her current research, and the varied and contrasting aspects between academia and industry.
